Elevating Leadership with Intention: Reflections Ahead of My January Lunch & Learn

This January, I have the privilege of leading a Lunch & Learn with the North Tampa Chamber of Commerce on January 15th, and as the date approaches, I find myself reflecting on why intentional leadership conversations are especially critical right now.
January often arrives with momentum, and pressure.
- New goals
- Higher expectations
- A renewed push to perform, produce, and accelerate
Yet the leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals I work with are rarely lacking drive. What they often lack is grounding, the ability to pause, recalibrate, and lead with clarity rather than urgency. That is the purpose of this Lunch & Learn.
Leadership Today Requires More Than Strategy
Modern leadership is no longer defined solely by execution and output. It requires self-regulation, adaptability, and presence, especially in environments marked by complexity, change, and sustained pressure.
My work is rooted in this reality.
As the creator of the ASCEND Leadership Pillars and the EMERGE Personal Development Framework, I have spent years integrating research from cognitive science, resilience psychology, and organizational leadership to develop structured, actionable systems that meet today’s leadership demands.
These frameworks are designed to help individuals and organizations:
- Strengthen clarity and decision-making
- Build emotional regulation under pressure
- Increase adaptability in rapidly changing environments
- Sustain performance without sacrificing wellbeing
At their core, these models support leaders in elevating from reactive management to strategic, evidence-driven leadership.
From Reactivity to Intentional Leadership
Many high-performing professionals operate in a near-constant state of reaction, moving quickly from meeting to meeting, decision to decision, rarely pausing long enough to assess how they are leading.
During the Lunch & Learn, we will explore questions such as:
- What does leadership look like when it is intentional rather than reactive?
- How does self-regulation impact decision quality and team dynamics?
- What small, research-informed shifts can leaders make to create meaningful, sustainable change?
Through the lens of the ASCEND and EMERGE frameworks, participants will gain practical insights that can be applied immediately, without adding complexity or overwhelm.
Because leadership transformation does not require more effort. It requires better alignment.
Leadership Begins Within
One of the foundational principles I will share is this:
You cannot lead sustainably from a place of depletion.
True leadership effectiveness begins internally, with awareness, regulation, and values-based clarity. When leaders are grounded, their teams feel it. When leaders lead with intention, organizational culture responds. When leaders model calm resilience, performance follows naturally.
This Lunch & Learn is not about doing more. It is about leading with greater precision, presence, and purpose.
An Invitation to Elevate
I am looking forward to a thoughtful, engaging conversation with the North Tampa Chamber community, one that creates space for reflection, dialogue, and evidence-based leadership development.
January is not asking us to become someone new. It is asking us to lead more fully as who we already are.
And that, when grounded in intention, clarity, and resilience, is where true elevation begins.
With elevation and intention,
Dr. Jacqueline Nelms
